Or when I feel things be fore I know the feel ings.

How am I s’posed to op er ate if I’m just tossed a round by (Em)fate?

Like on an un ex pect ed date

with a strang er who might (Dm)talk too fast, or ask me (G)ques tions a bout my self be fore I’ve de (C)cid ed that he can ask me (F)ques tions a bout my self.

He might (Dm)sit too close, or call the (G)wait er by his first name, or eat (C)O re os, but eat the (F)cook ie be fore the cream.

But what (Dm)scares me the most, what (E)scares me the most

is, what if (A)when he sees me, what if he does n’t like it?

What if he runs the oth er way and I can’t hide from it?

What hap pens then,

if (A)when he knows me, he’s on ly dis ap point ed?

Or if I give my self a way to on ly get it (D)giv en back?

I could n’t live with that.

So (E)I’m just fine, in side my (F#m)shell shaped mind.

I’m not de fen sive, I’m simp ly be ing cau tious.

I’ve been in mov ies most made for tel e vi sion, you can not be too care ful when it comes to shar ing your life.

I could end up a mis ’ra ble wife.

But he could be (Dm)crim i nal, some sort of (G)psy cho path who es caped from an in sti tu tion, some where where they (C)don’t have girls.

He could have (F)mas ter mind ed some way to find me.

He could be (Dm)col or blind.

How un (G)trust wor thy is that?

He could be (C)less than kind.

Or e ven (F)worse he could be ver y nice, have (Dm)love ly eyes,

and (Dm)make me laugh,

come (Gm)out of hid ing.

What do I (E7)do with that?

What if (A)when he sees me I like him and he knows it?

What if he o pens up a door, and I can’t close it?

What hap pens then,
