PARK BENCH PEOPLE

I see an old man (Cm9)sit ting on a park bench.

(Dm)Look ing in the skies when (Cm9)he can see the mouth stench

of the range of the (Cm9)peo ple walk ing and talk ing non sense.

In the park,

I (Cm9)see a man sit ting there

with a news pa per un der his (Cm9)head and hair.

I think he would be down for me to (Cm9)tell him that he’d been wait ing ’round here (Dm)for all

of his (Cm9)life.

And

it took time for the soul to come.

When it came, (Dm)I saw the same old scene (Cm9)o ver and o ver a gain, my friend.

Peo ple talk ing and squawk ing in the (Cm9)park.

And sit ting on a (Dm)bench, think ing ’bout things, I think of all the (Dm)peo ple of the park,

sleep ing in the (Dm)street, liv ing from their (Cm9)hearts.

Sleep ing in the (Dm)street, liv ing’s kind a (Cm9)hard.

Sleep ing in the (Dm)street, peo ple fall a part.

There’s a park bench that’s paint ed black and white.

And when you sleep there,

you don’t (Dm)get wet when you wake up be cause the trees are with (Dm)ered

and so you (Cm9)dry in the sun light.

You sit there and you pre pare to make a move and so you (Cm9)go through each and ev ’ry can.

Look ing in side, to (Cm9)see some thing that you did n’t see last night.

(Cm9)Want to get some thing to eat and (Dm)you go down the street.

(Dm)You see some friends of yours and (Cm9)then they all speak.

All they want to do is play you (Dm)like you are a fool, but (Cm9)I know bet ter.

On the bench in the park where you lay when it’s dark and it’s wet
